1. Timber Sourcing
We exclusively use 100% solid timber sourced from FSC® or PEFC-certified sustainably managed plantations. We do not use MDF, plywood, or any engineered wood products.
2. Frame & Legs
All visible components are made from solid hardwood, such as Rose Gum or Tasmanian Oak. These timbers are durable, stable, and have natural beauty.
3. Slats & Centre Beam
The internal support structure is constructed from solid untreated beech, ensuring strength and longevity without the use of chemical treatments.
4. Hardware & Joinery
All connecting hardware is sourced from Häfele Germany, known for precision and durability. We have trusted these fittings for over 30 years.
5. Finish
Our bed bases are finished with Biohouse Oil, a non-toxic, eco-friendly, and low-VOC wood finish that is safe for humans, animals, and plants.
A Note on Solid Timber
As each piece is made from 100% solid, sustainably sourced timber, natural variations such as knots and grain patterns are to be expected. These do not affect the product’s strength or durability. We do our best to ensure a consistent appearance, though perfect colour matching is not guaranteed, as avoiding natural variation would lead to excessive material waste.
Please note: Many products marketed as "solid timber" often combine some solid wood with engineered or wild-harvested native timbers, such as veneers or plywood. These are not used in our products.
Lifetime Guarantee
- Covered for the life of the original purchaser against any break or squeak.
- Any issues, we will either attempt repairing it or simply sending a replacement base or part at no charge
120-Night Returns
With so few returns and so many happy sleepers, we’re confident to now offer a full refund minus a return admin fee of just $95 on any bed base or mattress within 120 nights (toppers and side tables included only when purchased with a mattress or base – with no extra return cost). We’ll simply pick up your order for return, or donate it to charity!
Simple conditions apply: Please keep the boxes to avoid any potential extra costs (could be stored flat in the garage). If you are outside our free delivery area and we charged you an extra fee, this fee is non-refundable. Maximum of 1 mattress return and 1 bed base return per household.
Care
No special care is needed: we use a water-resistant, natural vegetable oil finish designed to protect the timber. It can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap if required.

The bottom layer/s in a mattress are designed to provide support through ‘spinal alignment’, by bouncing back at the heavier parts of your body as they sink in. Latex and Springs are very good at this, as they both provide very good ‘bounceback’ resilience (the more pressure that is applied, the more they want to return to their original position). Good quality, high-resilience Polyfoams can do this fairly well for a period of time, although it is hard to know or test what quality of polyfoam is in a mattress. Memory Foam has very little resilience (it takes a long time to return to its original position), and so is never used in the support layers.
The top layer/s in a mattress are designed to provide comfort through ‘pressure relief’, by forming a ‘cradle’ that shapes to your body profile. Latex and Memory Foam are both very good at relieving pressure by moulding around your body. Softer Polyfoams can also do this, however, are one of the biggest reasons for mainstream mattresses softening over time and forming body impressions – severely reducing the ability of the mattress to mould and support you. Springs are never used in the comfort layers because as you can imagine, they wouldn’t be very comfortable.
We are big fans of the Mattress Underground for well-researched articles and forum posts on all types of mattresses. In particular, their guide on Finding the Perfect Mattress is a very good starting point to learn more about the different materials used in a mattress, and how they are usually assembled – as well as their overviews on Support Layers and Comfort Layers. We hope you find this useful!
